The .277 Fury or 6.8x51mm Common Cartridge is a centerfire rimless bottlenecked rifle cartridge announced by SIG Sauer in late 2019. It has been designed to fit into short action lengths and barrels, making it an ideal choice for mountain hunters. This new cartridge has the potential to be the next great hunting cartridge, with decreased bullet drop and increased energy on target compared to standard ammunition in similar calibers. In April 2022, the US Army announced that they had selected SIG Sauer's XM5 rifle and .277 Fury ammunition to partially replace the M4.
